What began as a personal mission to understand construction and make informed hiring decisions quickly evolved into a passion-fueled career. Shillae’s path led her to trade school, where she discovered her love for plumbing and construction. With a background in finance and technology, she brought a unique perspective—blending the efficiency and professionalism of the corporate world with the hands-on expertise of the skilled trades.

Fresh out of trade school, Shillae pursued opportunities with top plumbing companies in Brooklyn. A chance encounter with a plumbing technician on the street led to her first apprentice role, setting the foundation for her future in the industry. However, in early 2020, the world changed. Furloughed from her job and at home caring for her young son, she found herself at a crossroads. Then, the phone started ringing—with friends, family, and referrals seeking her expertise. That was the moment Model Contractor was born.

What started as a one-woman operation soon grew into a thriving business, built on the core belief that quality work, clear communication, and genuine enthusiasm make all the difference. Today, the Model Contractor team continues to uphold these values, bringing a fresh and customer-focused approach to plumbing and renovation projects.
